Ludic City

Artistic Research Projekt
Laufzeit: Februar 2027-Februar 2028

The aim of this project is to explore how we can develop a de-localized approach for urban exploration through play manuals, to enable engagement with the urban landscape.
The research aims to question what our cities and livable spaces should look like, who can and should shape them, and how the process of shaping happens. It builds upon a collection of previous artworks (see Exposé) and ludic methods (e.g. Mis-Guides by Wrights & Sites or Chewing - Heart Collection by Charlotta Ruth) that we regularly use in artistic research.
In this praxis we see a direct link to our democracy. Everyone uses public spaces, they are in our direct commons. Yet most people use them as transit, or consumption spaces, not as an agora where we meet and debate.
The first step for this to happen is to create a sense of ownership and belonging. Only when I understand that I belong and co-own the public realms of our societies, do I comprehend that I am allowed to shape them. Playing together as part of this public discourse and as a way of shaping it, is a radical and vital act (See Critical Play by Mary Flanagan).
